KA's Are The Best!

Today Kyle and I played! It was awesome! Kyle and I have been good buddies since we first met. Today we did normal 'KA' time things- we ate, we talked, we laughed, we ate! We made churros. Making churros at home is simple and so yummy! Kyle and I reminisced about times before we left on our missions. Kyle left on his mission about 6 weeks before I did. It was so awesome to share some of the mission preparation adventure with him. He was a great support to me as a missionary and still is! Thanks Kyle for laughing with me, eating with me, and talking with me!

Rainbow

Recently I bought Colbie Caillat's latest album. It is enjoyable. She is an awesome song writer. This song 'Rainbow' I really like and feel that it expresses some of what I sometimes feel. Music is a very powerful thing. (Take the time to check out Colbie's new album)
Rainbow
By: Colbie Caillat

I'm still feelin the rain fall
And bouncin off my skin
How long do I have to wait for
The sun to shine again
Come on paint me the rainbows
I can follow it
I don't know where it'll take me
But I like wonderin

Wherever you are
Where will you be
Are you the same or
Dreamin after waitin only for me
Waiting for love
Waiting for the same or
Dreamin on the other side
Hoping no matter how far I'll find my way to you
Followin a rainbow

I'm gonna stop in the middle
Hang my feet off the edge
I got no reason to worry
I know I'll find the end
That's where you'll be waiting
I hope you don't forget
That I won't quit till I find you
No matter the risk

Wherever you are
Where will you be
Are you the same or
Dreamin after waiting only for me
Waiting for love
Waiting for the same or
Dreamin on the other side hoping that
No matter how far I'll find my way to you
Followin a rainbow

Stuck in my mind
I'm wasting time
I'm still on my own
I never thought that I would find my way
Into the light
Dreamin to find
Who ever you are

Wherever you are
Where will you be
Are you the same or
Dreamin on the other side waiting for me
Waiting for love
Waiting for the same or
Dreamin on the other side hoping that
No matter how far I'll find my way to you
Followin a rainbow

Ooohooohooohooooh yea yea yea...
I know we're gonna find it
I know we're gonna find it
I'm never gonna let you go
I know I'm gonna find you
I know I'm gonna find you
I won't let you go

Writing the Wetzler Way

It has been a good while since I last posted anything. This snowing weather really makes me feel like writing. It's interesting how some posts of mine are simple, silly, light hearted as well as serious. That's me! Though I am much more silly and light hearted than I am serious. I have decided to take Mr. Wetzler's idea of writing and use it. His idea- his way of writing is to just write don't erase, don't go back and see if it makes sense or needs a different word- just write. And so dear friends I will just write. I have many things on my mind- family, school, church responsibilities, the weather, returning to the AK, whether or not to take Japanese next semester, my new boots, health, and well a few guys. (I'd be lying if I said there was only one I was thinking about) Now some of these are "normal" or "everyday" things and it doesn't mean I am thinking about them and being all weighed down. Nope that's not it. I am just thinking, taking time to evaluate how I feel, how I can become more of the woman I dream.  I know for sure with my heart and with my head that God loves me and that He will and is helping me become the woman I want and need to be. Some of these things on my mind will come and go like my new boots, one of the guys, the weather, the Japanese class. And you know what? It's totally okay and for the best that I don't sit on some of those somewhat "trivial" things. Either way I know Heavenly Father thinks they're important cause they're important to me. Let me tell you about the Japanese class. I love Asia! I would love to learn another language from that part of the world. Now, I know that learning Spanish may be the more practical language for me to take, but I would love to learn some Japanese. One day I'll return to the Philippines and when I do I will be making a stop in Japan and attending a Japanese baseball game. This is not the whole reason for me to learn this language. I want the challenge and the uniqueness of speaking two Asian languages. I feel nervousness, yet excitement in the challenge of learning a new language that is so totally different. Lately, I've also been doing a lot of thinking about whether or not to return to the AK to work for the summer. I loved it! I would love to return, but there are also some things I did miss about being home. It's still a little early to make a decision either way. I am excited for the experiences yet to come and for the ones I've had and the ones I'm having now. I am learning and understanding more and more. I am grateful for a loving Father in Heaven who gives me opportunities to grow and to understand what it means to truly be happy. Masaya Ang Aking Puso :)

I Am Beside Myself

I enjoy Halloween. This year I had a difficult time deciding what to be. Friday afternoon I made the final decision from a list of... well many options. I went with this one. No, that's not a mini me or a siamese twin, it's me- beside myself. It weirded out a handful of people which was interesting, but it was fun! Kristina came down and we went to a dance and partied it up for a few hours! I'm grateful for Kristina! She's always there when I need her and will always act silly with me! Everyone needs a good friend they can act silly with! Thanks Kristina for being an awesome BFF!

Real Life is Perfect Love, Happiness, Overcoming, Service, Eternal Life.

Isn't today's weather lovely? The air is crisp and cool. I know it's cloudy, but the bright yellow and orange leaves are that little bit of sunshine.  I love fall. As I walked to class this morning I looked around me and saw so much to be thankful for. I live in a beautiful place. The leaves, the mountains, the crisp autumn air, the random rain. One way I feel God's love for me is through His creations. There are so many to enjoy and love. Feeling and sharing His love makes me happy. There may be crazy, not so great things happening in my life, but my faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ gives me the strength and hope I need to overcome those things in life. John 16:33  says, "Be of good cheer for I have overcome the world." I find a lot of comfort in this promise. I know that through the atonement of Jesus Christ I can be happy despite all the challenging things in life. He is the reason for my happiness. He understands completely. I am so grateful to know that through His sacrifice I can be "made whole", feel happy, have hope, even though my world is feeling a little icky and unbalanced. Yesterday I was reading in chapter 12 of Hebrews. Again, another promise and witness of God's love for me. In verse one it says to "lay aside every weight or sin that doth easily besets us" and to "run with patience the race that is set before us". That is the key. To lay aside and give to Christ all the things that weigh me down or trouble me and to run with patience and faith to Him. He strengthens and supports me. He gives me the courage I need to conquer my everyday battles. It is His love and the love of His Father that are perfect and pure. With God and Jesus Christ I will continue to be happy and hopeful despite life's challenges. I choose Them. I want to walk with Them. I know Their love is real and never-ending. I have been learning more about how serving and loving others is the best way to get out of feeling unbalanced. As I serve those around me- I really am serving Him. I am happy. I am hopeful. I know today is exciting and the future is bright and hopeful. I know that will God's help all things are truly possible. The real life is eternal life.        Masaya Ang Aking Puso :)

"There Is No Love More Sincere, Than The Love Of Food"

Hmmm...have I mentioned I love food? I do I love food! I do like the quote above, however, I know it's not the sincerest love, but my love for food and love of eating is sincere. I come from a family where good food is important! Some of the best memories I have involve eating and sitting around the table with my family. Today I had the Pumpkin Smash smoothie from Jamba Juice. Oh! It was awesome and the little size I got was not near enough! I have to admit I wanted another one. (I knew I should have gotten the power size) It was delicious and I plan on having another and soon! I totally recommend getting one and trying it. Last week I made me a dark chocolate strawberry panini. Wow! That was way awesome too! Hmmm...maybe I'll have one right now too... Food is awesome! We are so blessed with so many yummy things to eat and enjoy! The fall season brings so many wonderful new things to taste and eat! I hope you all have happy fall eating!

A BFF+ An Aggie Football Game + Orange Kicks + Loads of Chatting =Friday Night Fun

On Friday I was able to score some awesome tickets (9th row behind USU) to the USU v. BYU football game. (Thanks goes to my mama!) I called up Kristina and she drove down to P-Town to go with me. We had a blast! Even though our Aggies lost we had fun at the game. People watching at football games is great- there is a lot to watch ;)  During the first half of the game I looked at Kristina and I's shoes on the rail in front us and noticed we were both wearing our orange kicks. (Dressing similar on many occasions is normal for us.) Later in the game Kristina said, "hey that guy over there just took a picture of our shoes!" So to you Mr. Creeper Picture Taker of Orange Shoes we know what you did no matter how discreet you thought you were! We laughed about it and later took our own picture of our orange kicks. It was awesome to spend some time with Kristina. I am so thankful for her and that no matter how much time passes or what happens she's there for me! Friday was awesome all around! Earlier in the afternoon I had the opportunity to go to the temple with my grandma. It was great to be in the temple with Grandma and feel of the spirit of peace and goodness that radiates and is so abundant in the temple. I truly am discovering more of what I can become with God's help and by following the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel defines me and gives me peace, direction, purpose and happiness. It also provides me with answers and a greater ability to choose things that will increase my faith, happiness, and continue to help me become closer to God and ultimately become like Him.                                                               Masaya Ang Aking Puso :)

Hello Fall... Are You There?

I am so excited that fall is just around the corner! This morning as I walked to class I just felt it- fall is in the air!  The mountains all ready have big patches of orange and red. I love fall! Those who know me know of this love! I have many previous posts referring to fall.  Fall is soups, sweaters, squash-pumpkin, changing leaves, crisp apples- oh it's just full of so many awesome things! My sweaters, brown boots, and I are just waiting for the cooler temperatures to arrive! This season truly is my favorite for so many reasons. Honestly, what's not to love about sweaters, pumpkin, orange and red leaves, crisp apples, and "cool pleasant breezes"?

A Tall, Bearded Dude

Lately I have been asked if while I was in Alaska I met a tall bearded plaid wearing lumberjack Alaskan or a tall bearded dude who wears tight white t-shirts. Answer is...yes I met a tall bearded dude who wears tight white t-shirts. It was both interesting and funny that I was asked specifically about the beard and tight white t-shirt part. Actually, I met a couple tall bearded guys and one of them wore plaid often and the other one was always sporting a tight white t-shirt. I know this question is somewhat on the more joking side than the actual serious side, but in all realness and awesomeness I met a tall bearded dude who wears tight white t-shirts. His name?........ Wouldn't you all like to know! Good! Cause I'm going to tell you! Mark. Mark and I became good friends quickly. I think it was our love for Vitamin Water. ;) Mark and I on the surface seem very different, but we are not. I learned we are both feelers who enjoy reading, writing, snacking, and being crazy. I learned and am learning many things. I definitely count Mark as a blessing in my life. I am grateful I met a tall beared dude and that I can call him friend.

Cheesy Cherishing

September is here! Today is the unofficial last day of summer. This summer was amazing- absolutely amazing! I learned many things this summer and truthful still am learning from the many experiences I had. The AK Adventure brought many things- new friends, a fresh perspective, a strengthening of convictions, a resolution to continue to live my convictions. These are just a few of what stands out most. New friends. I made some incredible friends this summer. I worked, ate, lived, and played with some awesome people these past three months. I am so grateful that I developed the friendships I did! As cheesy as it may sound they really did take a place in my heart. At times we may have seemed quite different from one another, but in reality we are so similar. All trying to do our best and seeking to discover who we really are and experiencing life and living it to the fullest in the way we want to. I cherish my time in the AK with them with hopes of seeing them soon! Masaya Ang Aking Puso :)
Note: This is a short post on this subject. Detailed post coming soon!

Bike Love

This is my new bike! Yes it is pink! Oh, and it has a basket! When I look at this bike I think of love. My sweet sister Mary restored this bike for me. She spent time this summer working on this bike for me, so that when I returned from Alaska and had my birthday a short time later she could give it to me. On Thursday afternoon my family blindfolded me and took me outside. When I removed my blindfold I saw this beauty before my eyes- my mouth dropped open with surprise and I cried! My birthday was extra special this year. I was with my family the people I love most! I'm thankful for the hard work my sister put in to giving me something I really wanted. But I'm more grateful for her love and sacrifice of time as she took apart, painted, and put together again a bike. I know I'll remember this birthday! I'll remember the overflowing amount of love I felt that day and the love of a dear sister when I ride it! Masaya Ang Aking Puso :)

Funn’t Parties.Hamburgers.10.

Friday was relaxing and fun! Lindsay and I went to Seward. It was fun to just to walk in the rainy misty air and wander into the fun shops they have. I had some awesome peppermint hot chocolate, a very good hamburger, and some yummy mint chocolate chip ice cream which was super creamy by the way. I bought a few more souvenirs, of course picture picture, and enjoyed talking with Lindsay. We went to a thrift shop and I bought…prepare yourself….a Donny Osmond record! Cool huh? It’s fun to say I bought a record, not a CD or downloaded an album, but I actually purchased a record. Friday was my last full off from work that I was able to play. I’m glad that I did something fun! Later that night we had a party for all the housekeepers. It was a P party- we wore our pajamas, ate pizza, pixie sticks, pretzels, drank pop, played games, and got wacky awards. I got the “most likely to…find you something to do” award. I say that quite often here near the end of the work day when the rooms are all clean and the “everyday” chores are done. Oh, and what party would be complete if there wasn’t any picture picutre. I had a really good time! I am so thankful I have so many new good friends! My experience was enhanced greatly, because of the people I have met here. I’m thankful for them. On Saturday a bunch of us ate in the restaurant here at the lodge for Mark’s birthday. It was super fun! Everyone got “dressed up”- when I say dressed up I mean hair was not just ponytails or messy buns, button up/dress shirts, and me with all my flare. It was fun to be all together eating somewhere other than the EDR. I had…guess… a hamburger! Do I really ever have anything else? That’s what I ask myself. Anyway, it was good! It had fresh bleu cheese and bacon on it. I recommend trying it. Things are going good and I can not believe that a week from tonight I’ll be saying my “see you laters” and then the next morning leaving on a jet plane not knowing when I’ll be back again. I’m so glad I came to Alaska! This has been an amazing summer!

Reflect. Ready...Set...Awesome

A couple of weeks from tonight I’ll be in Provo. I will no longer be stripping bed sheets, picking up dirty wet towels, eating at the EDR, wearing my over sized hunter green polo and khaki pants with my janitor like keys and radio, no more chilling in lower rec, no more walks to Wildman’s, just to name a few. I will miss my new found friends, the beauty of this place, the cooler summer mornings, Taco Tuesday, etc.  I have that somewhat familiar feeling in my heart of knowing it’s all right to go home and let go that it’s time. I had similar feelings when I left the Philippines. I loved it, I learned many things and still am, but it’s time and I’m not as anxious or worried about the newness of being in Provo once again. I’m excited to see family and friends! Excited to be back in school, excited that fall will be super close when I return, excited to celebrate my birthday and turn 26, excited for the adventures of life- the unknown and known! Life is grand! I’m grateful for the awesome and maybe not so awesome things I have experienced thus far in my first quarter of a century. As I reflect there is still much to learn from some of those experiences. I feel I truly am becoming the woman I desire to be and who God desires me to be. He truly is my Teacher, my Father, and my Friend. In yesterday’s post I mentioned a few of the things I have learned and understand more clearly now. I’m glad learning and experiencing is eternal.
Today was another interesting and fun day at work. It was steady, but not overly crazy. I like these days. I’m not running around like a crazy person and get to enjoy work a little more. It was another nice afternoon the sun shining brightly and the mountains looking amazing as the little bit of morning clouds and fog blew out of here. I have yet to get tired of the beauty of this place. I love butterflies and today I saw an amazing one- it was black with orange and yellow polka dots on it’s wings. They were so round they looked painted on. It’s amazing to think God created all those things and knows them all perfectly. Masaya Ang Aking Puso :)
“Promised blessings are beyond measure. Though the storm clouds may gather, though the rains may pour down upon us, our knowledge of the gospel and our love of our Heavenly Father and of our Savior will comfort and sustain us and bring joy to our hearts as we walk uprightly and keep the commandments. There will be nothing in this world that can defeat us. Fear not. Be of good cheer. The future is as bright as your faith.”  -President Thomas S. Monson (April 2009)

Experience The Experience 101th

Today is my 101th day here in The Great Land! I can’t believe that I’ve been here for that long and that in 2 weeks I’ll be heading home. I’m enjoying my time here and am grateful for the things that I’ve learned and are learning. There are things I know without a doubt. I know God is real and knows me personally. I know people and things are placed into my life to learn from. I know I want to continue learning more about the hospitality industry. I know Alaska is beautiful place. I’ve learned more than ever how important it is to look for similarities not differences and more importantly to love and respect others.
On Friday Lindsay and I drove to Anchorage to pick up “The Dream Team”- Trevor, Mark, Phil, and Irv from their trip. It was fun to play in Anchorage for a day. We went to the mall, ate at the food court, dropped the boys off at the movie theater and than Lindsay and I went to Old Navy, Michael's, and Target. After we picked up the boys we went to the Wal-Mart. It was awesome to do more everyday things and be around town and actually drive more than 10 mph (that’s the speed limit on property). It was enjoyable shopping and eating out for a change. Those are random little things I’ve missed a bit. The weather has been pleasant the last few days. The mornings and nights are on the chilly side, but the afternoons are sunny and warm (about 65).
The lodge has been busy and full! Work is steady and Mondays and Saturdays are still busy, good, crazy days! I’m so glad I’m here and that I’ve had this opportunity. I’d like to come back next summer if the opportunity is there.  Masaya Ang Aking Puso.

Seward. Sweatsuits.

It’s been awhile since my last post-that’s not good. Things are going well and I now about a month left of this Alaskan adventure. I have mixed feelings about leaving. Just like any adventure- you’re sad to leave people you’ve met, but excited to see what the future holds. I am excited for school! I ready to be in class again! I enjoyed the last two semesters a lot and am excited for this one. Fall is my favorite season- sweaters, soups, leaves changing, rain, I love fall! Yesterday I was off and had the opportunity to go to Seward (not pronounced see-ward). I went with Jerrikah, Kimiko, Mark, and Phil. It was a lot of fun! Seward is a small coastal fishing town. We went to the sea life center, shopped, ate lunch at a little restaurant called Nellie’s roadhouse, played scrabble at a little coffee shop, and just bummed around in the rainy, misty weather. It was beautiful! Lunch was awesome! You know how much I love food and eating! I had a western burger- it had small onions rings, bbq sauce, and bacon, on focaccia bread. It was way yummy! The sea life center was awesome! The sea lions and the puffins were my favorite. The weather has been chilly and cloudy here in our part of the AK. I love the sunshine, but I’ve been enjoying the cloudy and light rainy weather. Although, it has been a little weird to think I am wearing my fleece and long sleeves and it’s the end of July. With the weather on the cooler side we’ve been needing to find random fun things to do inside. Some of the boys are planning a ping pong tournament. That should be fun and competitive. I’ve seen some pretty competitive ping pong since I’ve been here. I feel like I have a lot of random things to write about, cause well everything that happens around here is random and interesting. Last week, the girls and I (Maddie, Lindsay, and Kimiko) got all suited up in sweat suits and ran around Brown Town (employee housing). It was a lot of fun! We took lots of fun pictures and laughed a lot! I’m grateful I’m developing some fun friendships! I’ve met some awesome people here and am learning a lot. I’m grateful I’m having the experiences I am and learning what I am. This is the right place to be for me right now. I’m thankful that I’m here! I’m thankful to know God loves me and never leaves me unaided. I love Him and know He’s real! I’m grateful I can talk to Him anytime and that He listens and answers me! Masaya Ang Aking Puso :)

New Flare.Yummy And Jumps

Random random random. Many random, fun, and interesting happenings to write about. One- I have now added headbands to my daily flare wear. Awesome huh? I can't wear a whole lot of flare at work, so it's fun to have a little bright color in my hair if I can't wear a necklace or bracelet. I know I am silly, but I love my flare! It's me-bright colors and flare. I am classic girl who wants to be true to who she really is. This is something I've been pondering about a lot lately. Being true to who I am and discovering more of who I am and always have been. (one true self) I'm thankful God is teaching me and helping me to better understand and know. I love Him and desire to do what He asks of me. He's real and loves me and knows every detail about me! (my joys, struggles, favorites, interests, all of it) I'm grateful for His eternal plan and my part in it! It truly is amazing! I'm grateful to know I am His daughter.  :)
Today for lunch we had Mac & Cheese. It was so good! Masarap talaga! I love Mac & Cheese!
Last week, I went down to the river with Lindsay, Mark, Phil, Blake, Trevor, and Irving. The boys have been jumping in everyday for the last week as it has been so "hot" here in the AK. It was funny to watch their faces as they all made the jump one at a time into the freezing water yelling 'society' as they jumped. Their faces showed many emotions- excitement, fear, anticipation. It was entertaining that's for sure.  Crazy boys! Things are going well! I can't believe I'm nearing the second half of summer! :0  It's crazy! I bought my plane ticket a couple of weeks ago and it was hhmmm-  an interesting feeling. The picture above is me in my new sunglasses (that only cost $1) and one of my new headbands.

Happy Birthday Mar-Bear!

Happy Birthday Mary Elizabeth!
Yesterday was Mary’s 22nd birthday! 22! WOW! I’m thankful for my sister! She’s an awesome friend! Mary is funny, thoughtful, and loud! I’m thankful we’ve become so close! I'm thankful to have her in my life!

Drive, Peace, Kicks, Drive, Sing-A-Long For A Classic Girl

Friday, I took a little and much needed road trip to Anchorage. The best part of going to Anchorage was going to the temple. I love the temple! It always brings peace and rest. This particular time I needed some time away from the outside world, my soul was longing for some peace and rest the temple brings. It truly is the house of the Lord. I'm thankful I was able to go. I'm thankful for a loving Heavenly Father who knows me and is fully aware of me. I love Him and I'm striving to do my best to become all that He desires me to. The drive to Anchorage is a beautiful one! Blake, Irving, and Mark rode with me.  We went to the Wal-Mart and the mall. It was fun to do more normal everyday things. I got some awesome new kicks and sunglasses. (see pictures)

I love bright colors! Especially bright colored shoes! And now I have just added a pair of orange to my collection! On the way back we were listening to more music all from very different generes. "Hey There, Deilah" started to play and everyone was singing along- it was a lot of fun! (just as road trips should be)

I'm grateful for peace. I'm grateful for truth. I'm grateful for my family. I'm thankful for friends. It's awesome to have people in your life who know you and love you! Masaya Ang Aking Puso :)

Green Apples and Peanut Butter

The last couple of weeks I have been staying up late- watching movies, eating green apples, ping pong, laughing, talking, giving mini Tagalog lessons, walking to Wildman's, a bonfire at the river.  It feels like summer camp for 'big kids' or like living in the college dorms here.  Lots of fun is occuring and friendships are developing! I love it! I'm so glad I'm here! Saturday night Torie, Matt, Mark, and I walked to Wildman's. The walk there is beautiful and the 4 miles isn't bad- and getting a Midnight Milkway was awesome! I know I'm easily motivated by food and probably too often, but I'm not gaining weight, I think I've lost a few pounds- lifting linen bags, no fast food here, and all the walking everywhere is good. The strength in my arms has increased! Yes! That's what I wanted- being able to do more than one push-up is awesome! The bonfire at the river on Saturday was interesting and fun! The river is beautiful and I actually got to see the sunset! I learned on Saturday that beer really does reek! I took a picture of the sunset on Saturday, but I can't get it to post right now. The 'new' snack we're eating up here is green apples with peanut butter. I've been eating this delightful snack since I was a little girl, but it's new for some. (interesting- green apples and peanut butter I thought was 'normal')
Things are going well! The weather has been awesome this week! Tomorrow I'm going to Anchorage to attend the temple and go to Wal-Mart. I'm so excited to leave property tomorrow and have a little road trip. I'm way excited to be able to go to the temple tomorrow! I am really looking forward to it! The temple is peaceful. I know it will give me some needed rest to the soul. I'm thankful for the opportunity to be able to spend some time the temple.

Drop It Like It's Hot

Last night I stayed out the latest I have since I arrived in Alaska. We watched a movie and ate ice cream. I went to my room just after 12:30 last night. Now, I know that's not really late, but I do like my sleep. It was still light out- it actually looked more like 8:30 on a summer night than 12:30 a.m., but that's Alaska for you! I like that it's not dark at night- it's easier to see and look out for wildlife and creepers. Here the likelihood of a bear attack is greater than being mugged. Interesting...No bears or creepers allowed!
Things are going well! I'm developing fun friendships with the other employees. There's usually something occurring that's random, funny, interesting, or somewhat shocking. Last week a few people had a "fiesta" this included- a pinjata, tequila, dancing, and beer.  This was definitly entertaining- especially the dancing! There are some interesting moves out there that like more like you have ants in the pants. It was a fun night! Singing along to the random music and keeping a distance from some of the action. It looked like a frat party.  In other fun- last night we played scrabble, watched Hercules, and got milkshakes from Wildman's. It was good to be playing and laughing!

Khaki Blood Wild Bunny

Organizing luggage, punching in clean rooms, making assignments, picking up sheets and towels with blood, poop, sperm, pee, to just mention a few of the regularly seen soiled linens, walkie-talkie, needles, khaki pants…What do all these things have in common? Oh they’re all part of my role as lead houseskeeper. Here at Princesss we stay busy, especially in the housekeeping department. I work with fun and interesting people. All have their own story and bring something different to the team. There’s never a dull moment. How could there be with bio bag calls, go team awesome cheers, break time in the EDR, “hey bear” calls, nights full of sunlight, ping pong, among many others.
I am enjoying my job! I’m learning a lot more about the hospitality industry in an awesome hands on way and in an incredible location! Alaska is a must to see! I know almost every post of mine lately has been about it’s beauty, but it’s true! It’s beautiful and actually seeing it not just in pictures is awesome! I highly recommend visiting Alaska! (and if you want to do it this summer it’s a even better time)
Yesterday on my day off I relaxed- by drinking coke and eating Swedish fish. (I know that’s a trash load of sugar) The weather has been cooler I’ve actually worn a hoodie and a sweater this week. Middle of June- and I’m wearing a hoodie, what? The highs expected here this week are the lows in Utah. It’s all right I don’t mind the cooler weather and the rainy days. So yesterday as I sipped a cold coke and ate Swedish fish I read Emma, watched a couple of good movies, did and laundry. The other day after work I took this picture of me in my uniform so you could all see what ‘great’ attire I get to wear everyday. Now, you may be disappointed like I was to find out it’s not near as cool as J Lo’s maid’s uniform in Maid in Mattahan or the cute Hawaiian print dresses they wear in the movie Blue Crush, but a green polo and khaki pants is what we got. Some of the housekeepers say we all look like trees. It’s all good I don’t mind it too much. I must admit I miss being able to wear my flare somedays, but it’s comfortable. No bear or moose sightings this week yet. A few ravens, mice, and a few wild bunnies...stay tuned

Wildlife, Push-ups, An Earthquake, Beautiful World

Oh no! It's been a good week since my last post. I should warn that this post will be an all over the place sharing of what has happened and what is happening. This last week has been interesting and enjoyable! On Sunday, I drove to Soldotna to church. The drive to Soldotna is beautiful! It's about an hour and the highway is lined with trees, rivers, and wildlife. On the way there I saw a bear and 3 moose! It was crazy and way cool! I've been here a little over a month and had not seen either until Sunday. It was awesome! I was excited to see them and grateful I was in the car and just passing by and not meeting them face to face. ;) It was great to attend church and meet some interesting, fun people.  Lately, I've been working on improving my ability to do push-ups. I can now do them and not fall on my face! Yea Katie! Progress is awesome! Oh, yesterday morning when I was getting ready we had a little earthquake. It was weird. When I was in the Philippines we had them randomly for just a quick moment. The last few days here have been full of sunshine! The sun has been shinning not a cloud in the sky and the temperature has been somewhere in the 70s. I love it! It's interesting though cause 75 here feels more like 85 I have no idea why just does. I'm thankful to be living in this beautiful place and surrounded by so many of Heavenly Father's creations. I'm thankful I've had the opportunity to live in places that are diverse, different, and beautiful. Palm trees, rice fields, and ocean in the Philippines and mountains, trees, rivers, and wildlife in Alaska and in Utah. I have discovered over the years that I feel Heavenly Father's love for me through the creations- through the beauties of the earth.  Like the primary song says, "I'm glad that I live in this beautiful world, Heavenly Father created for me." I am glad. I am glad and grateful to live in such a beautiful place. I'm thankful for the gospel of Jesus Christ. I'm thankful for goodness and peace. I am grateful for truth and love.

When I posted the picture it cut me half out! Lame! But I am grateful a picture would post again. So, if you'd like to see the full picture just click on it! Because of course you want to see me! ;)

2 Miles + Rain + Ice Cream + 2 Miles = Friday Night Fun

Friday night a few of us decided to walk to Wildman's and get an ice cream cone. Wildman's is a convenience store. It was a lot of fun! Walking along the tree lined highway in the rain to get ice cream and to just hang out on a Friday night was a blast! It was nice to think it was not going to get dark during our little adventure to Wildman's. It was great actually leaving property I've only left the lodge property a hand full of  times in a month's time so it was great to get out. The ice cream was yummy! Rocky road with lots of marshmallows ;) It's been awhile since I had ice cream and since we walked the calories from the ice cream were totally okay to have! ;) (This is before we made the walk back. This is Madde, Lindsay and I outside of Wildman's)

The last week has been great! Things are going a lot smoother and I feel more into a good groove now. I'm grateful I'm here. I'm grateful for the experinces I'm having and seeking to learn and grow. Some things have been challenging for me. The other night Guy sweetly reminded me, "The most precious things in life are the ones we feel, and the subtle gathering of light and seeing through the Spirit of truth makes all God's children lovely...regardless of the content they emit!" I’ve been thinking about this and seeking to gather light and understanding in all situations I’m encountering. And I am gaining a greater understanding of how truth really is in all things. I’m thankful for the knowledge and wisdom I’m receiving. I’m thankful for Guy- that he knows how to listen not only to me, but more importantly the Spirit. I’m thankful for truth. I’m thankful for the Spirit and the guidance and comfort I’m receiving. God loves me and knows me and through the Spirit is teaching me what I need to know. I feel God’s love- I know it’s real. I know He needs me- to share His love, to me be, and to trust Him. God truly is loving, compassionate, generous, and all-knowing!

I Looked Out The Window And What Did I See

Yes! I picture finally posted! This is what I see from my bedroom window. I love all the trees! They are everywhere up here. The mountains are covered. The leaves are really budding and growing- the leaves are tiny on some and on others are full grown. It's awesome to be in the mountains and to enjoy the beauty of the creations. Heavenly Father gave us an amazing gift- this earth is beautiful and His love is in all these "little things"- flowers, trees, mountains, rivers, animals, all of them. I'm grateful I'm here and that I get to live in another beautiful place! I've lived near the ocean and with the palm trees and now again with the mountains- big, tree-filled mountains, and near a turquoise colored river. If you have yet to visit Alaska, I highly recommend it! Especially this summer while I'm here ;)

Sightings Of Shamu's Family

On Monday I had the opportunity to go on the Kenai Fjords Tour. It was awesome! We went whale watching and to see a glacier on the gulf of Alaska. The glacier just looked like a pile of snow. The whales were way awesome! I saw a hump back whale, a gray whale, and a whole bunch of orca whales. None of them came too far out of the water, but it was amazing to be near them like that. We also saw a some porpoises. Our guide told us that they are cousins with the orca. They totally look like mini Orcas. They also came right next to the boat and would swim under and around it. They were really cute! We also saw sea lions, otters, and puffins. Oh, and a trash load of seagulls. It was a beautiful day! It was clear and sunny! I did get motion sickness which continued to stay with me until this morning. Not fun! I’m really glad I got to go despite the sickness it was an amazing experience!

Just A Little Post

Today, I took a bunch of pictures to post and right now blogger and the slow connection I'm experiencing won't let me so stay tuned for pictures in a few days as I try and get it to add the image. On another note. I'm thankful for Guy. Yesterday, I wasn't feeling well and my emotions were getting the best of me. I called Guy and he listened, made me laugh, and shared some needed words. He's a true friend. He's there when I really need him. He's attentive and understanding. I'm thankful I can call him friend. Thanks Guy!

The Beginnings Of An Alaskan Adventure

Wow! Wow, for many reasons and not in any particular order one- it’s been too long since I updated my blog, but now I have more internet/computer time now. Second- I am in Alaska! Third- Alaska is amazingly beautiful! The lodge is located in a valley- we are surrounded on all sides with mountains and full, green timbers. The leaves are just beginning to bud on others not many flowers though, but it is beautiful! There is only snow on the high mountain tops and the weather has been awesome! It’s been in the high 60s during the afternoons, but still on the cooler side in the mornings. When I first arrived here the sun would begin to set around 10:30, now it’s a little closer to 11:00. It’s pretty cool. Interesting. I have yet to see a sunset here, because I’ve been asleep. I don’t think I’ll see one here. I’ve been told that each day Alaska receives 6 more minutes of sunlight. The other night I was watching the weather report and as the weather woman gave the forecast for the evening she said that the night would be full of sunlight. It just sounded weird- night full of sunlight. What? The job is going well. I’m enjoying it! Last week and this week we are spending deep cleaning guest rooms and preparing them for opening day. It’s a lot of work, but good hard work- I’m working on my muscles ;)  Sunday half of the housekeeping staff arrived making the work load for me and Alison(housekeeping manager) lighter. I also happen to be the oldest one in our department most are 18-21. Alison is just a couple years younger than me. She’s a lot of fun and we get along great! She also attended Utah State. (Yea! Go Aggies!) The food is yummy! I’m doing good controlling my portions. (good work, Katie!) The staff here at the Kenai lodge are friendly and laid back. I’m excited to get to know them all better and make new friends. Other interesting things- the toilet paper and tissues are from a company called Eco Soft and are made from recycled paper products. Yeah recycled toilet paper! ;)  I’ve only seen wild bunnies, birds, and squirrels. Yep, no bears or moose yet. Oh, the mosquitos are as big as they say. I am happy! I am happy I’m here! I’m excited for more of this  adventure and what the summer will bring! I’m excited to grow, learn, and to be in the mountains, and to be in a place that I’ve dreamed of coming since I was a young girl. I’m grateful for this opportunity! I’m thankful to Heavenly Father- I’m thankful for Him. I’m becoming closer to Him as I learn to more completely trust Him and rely on Him for help, guidance, and knowledge. I love Him. I have such peace in my heart and mind. I know the peace I feel is sent from God through the Spirit. I’m thankful for who I am and what I know about who I am and can become. God is real. His plan is perfect and filled with happiness and peace. I need God and He needs me to be true to who I am- to the covenants I have made and will make. Alaska is amazing! Water, A Power Bar, A Machete

This morning Guy and I hiked to the Y. It was fun! The weather was beautiful this morning. We started up the trail with our water, camera, and a machete.  I seem to forget how steep the trail is and whoa I was breathing heavy super fast. (I think part of that would be the coke I love) Depsite the crazy breathing in the beginning it was a lot of fun and felt good. There were very few hikers this morning, it was nice to not have loads of people. I love the view from the Y- seeing both the Provo and the Mount Timpanognas Temples, the lake, and finding spots like the MTC, hospital, my house, etc. I also love how the trees all look from the 'bird's eye view'.  The best part of hiking to the Y this morning was talking and laughing with Guy. I know I've said it many times, but he is awesome company. I enjoy spending time with him. I'm glad that we went hiking this morning. I'm grateful the weather was beautiful. I'm grateful for the new sweet memories.

Crazy I Tell You

This next week is going to be crazy! Crazy I tell you! I leave for Alaska in 8 and a half days! I am super excited and well... yes nervous too. Alaska is going to be an adventure. An adventure that I feel I am in need of. Even with the nervousness and feeling a little sad about leaving good ol' Provo I am at peace with embarking on this adventure. I'm looking forward to living in the mountains, reading, writing, meeting new people, getting some great work experience, and many other things. Visiting Alaska has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I am excited to fulfill that dream! The last few days I've been doing a lot of writing and pondering. I'm not ready to share that writing, in time...yes it's a possibility. As I've shared in other posts- writing is important to me, it has a very part of me. I've enjoyed writing stories and recording my thoughts, feelings, and ideas for as long as I can remember, I'm thankful for that. Writing is liberating, powerful, and personal. A Thirdhand Serenade

This morning after class as I drove home I rolled down the window turned up some Secondhand Serenade and sang along! How lucky were all of you who happened to be next to me at the traffic lights and 4-way stops. You had the opportunity to have me serenade you it doesn't happen often that I feel like singing so freely with the window down, but today it felt awesome! Today as the sun is shinning down so brightly and full of warmth it feels so good to be soaking it in. After Guy and I went to lunch we went for a walk at the park. What a great day for a walk! The only thing maybe missing would have to be a root beer snow cone. With awesome company, interestingly excellent conversation, sunshine, and a full tummy there's not much more I could ask for though. I'm grateful for Guy and that I can talk openly and without feeling like I better hold back and protect myself. We talk about it all- and I mean it all, I love it! I'm grateful that the sun is shinning today. I'm thankful for the guidance of Heavenly Father and the peace I am feeling. Heavenly Father is real- He listens and speaks to me He is teaching me. I'm thankful He has created and given such a beautiful place to live and enjoy. Masaya Ang Aking Puso :)

A Logan Adventure + Memories = Sweetness

Last Friday, I took a little road trip to Logan with Kristina and Meghan to see Nikki and support her in her senior exhibit. It was so fun! We ate quite a bit of food, bought new aggie gear, and laughed a ton! I have so many awesome memories of Logan and the time that I've spent there. As a wise friend said to me, "Memory is a great movie." Guy is right- memories are a great movie. As we drove to Logan, went to campus, and drove around Cache Valley memories filled my mind. I have many sweet, crazy ones of that place. I'm grateful for those times and the things that I learned during the time I lived there. Memories are sweet! The food that day was excellent! Firehouse Pizza and Olive Garden- it was all way yummy! It was so fun to laugh with the girls and remember the crazy fun times we've had. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to live with them and that we have become such excellent friends.

ipod greatness

On Monday I entered even further into the technololgy world, by purchasing an ipod touch. Good investment! I don't like dropping large amounts of money, so this was a carefully considered researched purchase. I'm enjoying it! It's simple to use and helpful. Guy has been awesome with all my ipod questions. The notepad app is awesome! I use the one on my cell phone often, but the ipod one is more "Katie friendly".    Yesterday, Dad, Mary and I went to Buddy's for lunch. It was fun to just sit and chill with them. I know another short post, but I've more homework to finish up. This coming week is the last week of classes! It's crazy!

Summer Reading List

One thing I am LOOKING FORWARD to doing this summer is READING. I love to read! I have a number of books that I've started and have not been able to finish because of school assignments. I have a list of books that I am going to read, but I am looking for MORE books to read. Any suggestions?

Musing Over My Writing

Yesterday, I found a bunch of poems I wrote my senior year of high school. They're fun to read and also bring some awesome reflection.  I've enjoyed writing for as long as I can remember. Writing poems, short stories and essays has long since been a passion of mine. Lately, I have really been enjoying writing again. Writing brings insight and perspective. It allows for expressing feelings, hopes, and dreams. Writing is an outlet as well. An outlet to express feelings and reflect on them at the time written as well as later. I want to keep writing. I will keep writing. It's interesting I don't share my writings often, but I've found this blog to be a way to share some thoughts of mine. So, since I spent some time musing over my 12th grade poems, I thought I'd share one of them. It's interesting this poem is titled "I Am". I am is a creative self declaring statement. One of the things I've been thinking about and even writing about over the last year, not knowing I had started writing about it with a poem when I was 17. Over the years I have learned more and more that I existed long before I came to earth.  Here it is "I Am", written by 17 year-old Katie.    I like it! ;)

I Am

I am a butterfly, free and curious of new found experiences and hopes.
I am a red jeep climbing the mountain of life reaching goals and overcoming obstacles.
I am Salsa, spicy and lively, yet mild and calm.
I am a fish exploring the waters of the unknown and full of freedom making decisions myself.
I am Spring bright and cheerful, seeking to learn and grow.

Me...Tech Savvy? Hmmm...I Am A Virus Waiting To Happen

One year ago today I created my blog. Over the last few months I have posted more frequently and have figured out how to use most of the features. ( Good work, Katie)  I still find it funny that when I first returned home from my mission I had no idea what a blog was and what people were referring to. It's interesting how in short time technology among other things change and advance. I'm acutally getting to type this post on my laptop. Yeah, that's right my laptop- the one a bought like 6 years ago before heading up to Logan. Guy has been great helping me clean it and update. Well, helping me probably isn't the best way to say it more like he's been doing it and telling me what steps I need to do next. I am not really 'tech savvy'. As I was told today I am a virus waiting to happen. LOL! I am grateful he's willing to do it and be patient as I try and follow along. Today's weather is quite different from yesterday. The wind is blowing there are low gray clouds. I am hoping if we are going to receive moisture- I am hope it is some good hard rain! I love the rain! The rain stroms in the Philippines are incredible! I had never seen rain like that before. (As I typed that I couldn't help, but think of the Shawn Colvin song, "I never saw blue like that before", great song! But that's a post for another day) The rain just came and came. I got to wear my rainboots. (Which I love doing by the way)  So, maybe today we'll get some good rain, not snow- RAIN! Today, has been another productive day. Guy and I went to several places checking out iPod prices. They were the same everywhere we went, but the Wal-Mart which was only cheaper by like 5 dollars. It was fun today talking and laughing with Guy. He's excellent company.  So, I best continuing this productive day and do some homework. Oh, check it out I've been an awesome blog updater these last few days! Yea me! ;)  Masaya ang aking puso.

An Otter Pop and A Rolled Down Window

Hello Spring! The Spring SUNSHINE greeted me this morning as I left for class. What a beautiful morning! (I really wanted to burst out in Oklahoma just now- Oh, what a beautiful morning oh what a beautiful day I've got a beautiful feeling... okay so I couldn't resist.) The sun was high and amazing this morning. Mount Timpanogas looks AMAZINGLY awesome this time of year with it's snow CAPPED peaks and robin egg blue sky surrounding it. I'm thankful Heavenly Father created such a beautiful place for us. TODAY, I had my first otter pop of the season. It was yummy! I love FLAVORED ice and slushes- well I just love chewing ice! (I seriously think I've mentioned that in several conversations over the last few days.) Today, I even got to roll down the WINDOW in my car! I love that! Window down, sunglasses on, cool BREEZE, upbeat music, and little traffic- it's a well AWESOME! I love driving with the window down! Today, I am grateful for TRUTH- to know it and have it! I'm grateful to know God LOVES me and is COMPLETELY aware of who I am and what I need! I am choosing to stand with Him and think, speak, do, essentially- what truth REQUIRES. I'm grateful to be PECULIAR. I feel reFRESHed today. I am CHEERFUL. I am LOVING. I am CREATIVE. I am BELIEVING. I am Katie. I am peculiar and loved by God. Masaya ang aking puso :)

He Hears Me

It's April! The sun is shinning brightly today with the temperature more pleasant than it has been these first weeks of Spring. Today, there are many things in my mind. Answers to prayers is one of them. This last weekend was General Conference. For the last few weeks I've been thinking about questions- thoughts about what I feel I need to hear and know- what Heavenly Father needs me to hear- to know. As I was searching and pondering I found specific principles, things I need at this season. What's awesome is how the messages become personalized for who I am. I know Heavenly Father is listening to me and answering. He truly is into the details of my life. As I remain faithful to the covenants I have made with Him. I will have the righteous desires of my heart. I know He hears me. I'm thankful for the answers I receive that come in so many ways. I'm thankful for the words I heard this weekend, for the strength I am receiving. I'm grateful to Him for my family and for the friends in my life. I'm grateful He heard my plea for a new friend. I'm so glad He did! Masaya ang aking puso! :)
This song from Hilary Weeks I love.

Here I am again, down on my knees
And with every pleading word,
Thy comfort I seek
Though the words are slow to come,
My thoughts are racing by
Peace fills the room,
Thy spirit is nigh
He hears me
When I'm crying in the night
He hears me
When my soul longs to fight
Till the morning will come
And the light of the dawn reassures...
He hears me Any hour,
wherever I may be
In the silence of an empty room,
or on a croweded street
Whether offering thanks,
or in urgency I pray
I never go unnoticed,
I'm never lead astray
Any whisper of the soul
No matter how old Father hears the call
